Bringing Climate Awareness to Life: A Memorable Sustainability Week in Jászberény

Between 21–23 April, the B-prepared project had the opportunity to visit Bercsényi Miklós Primary School in Jászberény, Hungary, as part of their Sustainability Week—and it turned out to be an inspiring and impactful experience for everyone involved.

We began our sessions with an open and engaging discussion about climate change, focusing on how it contributes to the increasing frequency and intensity of natural disasters around the world. The students, ranging from grades 5 to 8, were curious, thoughtful and eager to participate, which set the tone for meaningful conversations throughout the visit.

Together, we explored what natural disasters are, why preparedness is essential, and what key items should be included in an emergency kit. These topics sparked plenty of questions and reflections, highlighting just how important it is to introduce resilience and awareness at a young age.

One of the undeniable highlights of our visit was the hands-on experience with our VR and AR content. More than 200 students had the chance to try these immersive tools, which immediately captured their attention and transformed abstract concepts into something tangible and memorable. Seeing their enthusiasm and engagement reinforced how powerful interactive technology can be in education—especially when addressing complex global challenges.

A special note: this visit came about thanks to a wonderful personal connection. Zoltán Székely’s (SFC) former teacher heard about our work and invited us to the school—and we’re incredibly grateful she did. It’s a perfect example of how meaningful collaborations often start in the most unexpected ways.

We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to project partners SZTAKI, SFC and NSKI for their support in making this visit possible.

Experiences like this remind us why we do what we do: to empower the next generation with knowledge, awareness and tools to better understand—and shape—the world around them.
