Berlin Workshop
Enhancing Disaster Preparedness of Vulnerable Groups Using B-PREPARED Solutions
Technical University of Berlin
10 September 2026
How can disaster preparedness tools better serve those who need them most?
The B-PREPARED Consortium invites stakeholders, experts, advocacy groups and interested participants to join an interactive workshop at the Technical University of Berlin focused on strengthening disaster preparedness for vulnerable groups.
The workshop will explore how innovative digital and immersive solutions can enhance inclusion, accessibility and resilience. Participants will experience and test B-PREPARED tools firsthand, including the VR Prepared serious game, IM Prepared, Disastropedia, and RU Prepared. Selected solutions will be demonstrated live on-site, offering a hands-on opportunity to understand how technology can support preparedness across diverse communities.
Throughout the day, we will reflect together on the specific needs of vulnerable groups – including elderly people, persons with sensory or mobility impairments, migrants, individuals with chronic illnesses, and socially disadvantaged communities. The workshop will examine how preparedness content, accessibility features and training approaches can be improved, and how vulnerable groups can be better integrated into digital learning environments such as Learning Management Systems (LMS).
A special focus will be placed on how immersive tools like VR serious games can raise awareness of the challenges faced by different groups during emergencies and foster empathy-driven preparedness strategies.
The programme combines live demonstrations, interactive discussions and a guided IM-prepared Walk scenario, creating space for dialogue between practitioners, researchers, developers and community representatives. The aim is not only to showcase solutions, but to co-create pathways for more inclusive and effective disaster preparedness practices across Europe.
The workshop will take place in person at the Technical University of Berlin (Marchstraße 23, 10587 Berlin), with the possibility to join selected sessions online.
Join us in Berlin to contribute your perspective, share your expertise, and help shape the future of inclusive disaster preparedness.
