The Technische Universität Berlin (TUB) is with 35,000 students one of the largest universities of technology in Germany. University rankings pay testimony to its successes by continually ranking the TUB among the top academic institutions around the world. TUB is also a member of the Berlin University Alliance, the only Alliance of Excellence in Germany.
The Department for Work and Technology researches the interactions between technology, work and society. All research activities pursue the goal of investigating and promoting the sustainable use of technologies for our society. In the context of global challenges (climate change, urbanization, etc.) we work within trans- and interdisciplinary research projects in the fields of technology, participation and environment. Research on this is divided into four main areas:
The “Technology and Participation” area develops, deploy and use tools for participatory technology development in order to ensure the social benefits of technical innovations.
Hi! I’m Prof. Hans-Liudger Dienel (call me Hans) and I hold the chair for work, technology and participation at Technische Universität Berlin. A major focus of my work in theory and practice are questions of citizen and stakeholder participation in policy and in research. The more happy I am that we are part of the B-prepared consortium, where we put this into practice and co-develop games and other tools with stakeholders and citizens.
I am Simone Wurster, senior researcher and project manager at Technische Universität Berlin. I hold a PhD from the University of Potsdam in economics and social sciences, with a thesis on strategies for success for entrepreneurial technology firms.
At TUB my research focuses on innovation: on sustainable innovation, innovation economics and socio-economic aspects of innovation. My experiences as project manager and consultant for technology companies make sure that my research is closely aligned with the practical and business side of innovation.
I already took part in various national and EU-level research projects as project leader, work package leader and sub-project leader including ConCirMy, STAR-ProBio, INFRANORM, ENSURE, BlockOne and CRISP.
I’m very happy to be part of the B-prepared team. As I was already involved in the application phase of the project I am now the happier to see our plans come to fruition. Especially, as the question, how to bring an innovative technological tool, a computer game, into existence and into actual use is of genuine interest to me, as it connects to my work on socio-economic aspects of innovation and brings it into an interesting new field.
Hi, I’m Christoph Henseler, Senior Researcher at TU Berlin. As computer scientist and historian I am almost transdisciplinary by education and work many years at the interface (and intersection) of technology and society.
In the last years I designed and accompanied stakeholder processes for the Federal Office for Information Security on the topic of the internet and civil rights and worked on an ERASMUS+ action on new curricula for emergency management professionals and advised a national project on participative introduction of AI into companies on AI ethics.
In B-prepared our main job will be to ensure that ethical and social aspects are taking account of in our technology development and to bring the stakeholder and especially vulnerable groups on the table and into decision making.
Even longer than I do research on emergency preparedness and response – I am a table top roleplayer. Therefore I am even more happy to be part of B-prepared which brings my professional and private interests together.
