Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (HVL) is one of the largest educational institutions in the country, with about 17,000 students.

Every year around 3000 candidates graduate from HVL and contribute to important societal missions in companies, organizations and other parts of working life.

HVL stretches over 5 campuses and 400 kilometers on the western coast of Norway. The university offers a broad range of academic programmes at Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD levels.

We have strong and innovative professional environments within health- and social sciences, engineering, teacher education, maritime sciences, nature sciences, culture and sports, social sciences, economics and management.

HVL has a clear professional-oriented profile. Through education, research and development we create new knowledge and expertise, anchored internationally and with solutions that work locally.

Professor, Department of Computer science, Electrical engineering and Mathematical sciences, Western Norway University of Applied Sciences.

I am a professor in information systems with a focus on new information technologies, e.g., virtual reality, mixed reality, and serious games. I am interested in evaluating and/or integrating new technologies in organizations or society for various improvements or achieving certain values.

Experiences from defining evaluation batteries and implementation processes for new technologies. Contacts with user organizations that are interested in the B-Prepared project.

The whole idea behind Disastropedia is interesting and exciting. Finding the right technological setting for the best collaboration is challenging.

Tord Hettervik Frøland

Assistant Professor, Department of Computer science, Electrical engineering and Mathematical sciences, Western Norway University of Applied Sciences.

Hi, my name is Tord Frøland, and I am a researcher and educator at HVL with a background in computer science. In my research, I investigate how digital games and simulations can create valuable and engaging learning experiences.

In this project I will use my theoretical background and practical experience to support the development of the applications. I will also focus on the assessment of the resulting solutions, providing insights to the public and helping guide further improvements.

I find it highly motivating that this project allows me to leverage a wide range of my background in the creation of tools that can have a positive effect on society, by helping reduce the potential impact of disasters. I am also very glad about the fact that the tools will be made freely available at the project’s conclusion.

Janina Juranek

Advisor, Division of Research, Internationalisation and Innovation, Western Norway University of Applied Sciences.

I am a project coordinator at HVL and an expert in implementing and executing research projects.

I am very much looking forward to use this expertise to support the HVL team and the entire B-Prepared consortium in this amazing project.

I enjoy working on projects that have a direct real-life impact and B-Prepared definitely will live up to that. I was thrilled when the B-Prepared project was granted, and I am excited to be a part of it.
