Pompiers de l’Urgence Internationale (PUI), a French NGO founded in 2004, is based in Limoges with one regional branch and 265 volunteers. The organization provides aid to populations affected by crises, strengthens civil security in emerging countries and promotes disaster prevention. PUI is the first French organization classified by the UN as an INSARAG medium Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) team and is recognized as a French Civil Protection Association. Additionally, PUI is part of the European Volunteers Search and Rescue (EVOLSAR) network, showcasing its active role in international disaster response efforts.
PUI specializes in urban search and rescue (USAR), medical treatment for disaster victims and humanitarian logistics. The organization operates advanced water purification units and collaborates with the French Association for Earthquake Engineering to enhance structural engineering capabilities. PUI also offers civil protection diagnostics, disaster preparedness programs, and training in augmented reality fire scenarios and earthquake simulations, reflecting its comprehensive approach to emergency response.
Training is a core aspect of PUI’s mission, offering programs for volunteers in areas like first aid, firefighting, rescue operations and management. Specialized training covers USAR, K9 operations, forest fires and chemical hazards. PUI also conducts internal training in drone use, water production and organizes intensive drills. Through international courses like INSARAG UCC, PUI solidifies its leadership in disaster management, ensuring its volunteers are highly prepared for emergency situations.
PUI actively participates in several European projects, for example, Silvanus, Search & Rescue and TREEADS. PUI’s collaborations focus on disaster preparedness, virtual reality training, wildfire management, and early victim detection under collapsed structures. These initiatives highlight PUI’s commitment to enhancing global disaster response, ensuring both technological advancement and practical application. As first responders, our pivotal role in these projects extends to simulating and testing new technologies. Through organized use cases featuring diverse scenarios, we immerse ourselves in real-world situations, providing invaluable insights and ensuring the practicality and effectiveness of the technologies being evaluated.
